Frequently asked

Where do I actually buy the tickets?

On tickets.gem.eg, the museum's only official ticketing website. The museum is not responsible for tickets bought through other platforms.

Does the entry time limit how long I can stay?

No. The time slot you choose is the window during which you can enter the museum — once inside, you can stay as long as you like, up to closing time.

Can I change or refund a ticket?

No. All tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, so check the date and time slot before you pay.

Who gets in free?

Children under six, visitors with disabilities, Egyptian tour guides accompanying a group and ICOM members are exempt from the admission fee all week. Egyptian students and staff of relevant university faculties, Egyptian tour guides, military veterans, families of martyrs and Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities employees are exempt on selected days. Everyone must show valid ID proving eligibility, and pay the difference at the ticket office if they want the guided tour.

I live in Egypt but I'm not Egyptian — what do I pay?

The expatriate rate: EGP 750 for adults and EGP 380 for children and students, with valid proof of residency at the entrance. Foreign spouses of Egyptians and their children can buy the Egyptian admission pass with a marriage or birth certificate.

Is the guided tour on top of the admission ticket?

No — you buy either an admission ticket or a guided tour ticket. The guided tour ticket covers both the tour and entry to the museum.

Can I book for a school or a travel group?

Yes, but not through the online shop. Travel agencies and corporate groups write to booking@gem.eg, schools to learning@gem.eg, and event enquiries go to events@gem.eg.
